There is no class of business more necessary in a growing city and progressive agricultural section than that connected with the handling of lime, hair, brick, hard and soft coal, fertilizer chemicals, farm implements and seeds. In the Farmers & Planters Company, Salisbury has one of the most progressive concerns of its kind to be found in this section of the United States. Having all the prestige that only years of straightforward and fair dealing can confer, yet thoroughly modern in its methods, this concern now and for years past, the leading one of like character in this city, still retains the position it earned when it was organized.
The present company was formed in 1912, succeeding a concern bearing the same name which was conducted by Mr. Glen Perdue, who was the sole owner. Mr. Perdue against the competition of keen business rivals during his ten year connection with the house, developed it along lines that won the admiration of men familiar with this industry.
The Farmers & Planters' Company are compounders of "Truckers Fish Special Mixture" and are experts at mixing fertilizers. Their trade extends throughout the Peninsula. It handles such standard lines of farm machinery as the products of the John Deere Plow Company and International Harvester Company. Its machinery territory includes all of Wicomico County.
In its large warehouse in the rear of the office is carried a full line of machine repairs, stoves, etc., lime, hair and bricks handled by this concern have entered into the construction of many of the leading business houses and handsome residences in this section. Noted for its freedom from dirt and slate, the hard and soft coal distributed through the Farmers & Planters is sought by those who desire a product that gives the maximum heat.

Mr. D. J. Ward is connected with the J. E. Bowden Company, lumber merchants. All of the other officers and directors of the Farmers & Planters Company are public spirited and very progressive men of affairs who are ever ready and willing to help any cause for the advancement of old Salisbury.
Mr. W. P. Ward is the Vice President of the Peninsula Transit Company. Mr. William M. Cooper, the Vice President, is the Treasurer of the Peninsula Rapid Transit Company, and he is interested in a number of other enterprises too numerous to mention.
The Farmers & Planters Company is a most reliable concern and one that every farmer should keep in mind.
